How to Choose the Best Halong Bay Cruise Cabin

Cruising through Halong Bay is undoubtedly the best way to experience the UNESCO World Heritage site. Once you’ve done your homework on booking online vs. on arrival, and you’re confident you know how to avoid the Halong cruise scams, the next step is going to be choosing your Halong Bay cruise cabin.

This step is quite nuanced and can potentially become very frustrating because there are so many sources of information when it comes to Halong Bay cruise cabin options. I’m going to share some of my hands-on experience to give you guys a better idea of which kind of room is best for you to book depending on your specific needs as a traveler.

Halong Bay Cruise Room

Deluxe (Junior) Cabin

Price: starting from $100 up to $190.

This kind of room is the most basic and most common. A deluxe room has the smallest total area among all room types. The area is approximately 20m2, although it may be a bit bigger on some cruises like Signature Cruise or Signature Royal Cruise.

A deluxe room is usually located on the first deck level, so it won’t have a private balcony. The maximum occupancy is 2 adults plus 1 child under 12 years old. If you check on some booking sites, you will see a ‘Double Deluxe Room’ and ‘Twin Deluxe Room’.

The only difference between the two categories is while the Double is equipped with one double bed, the twin is equipped with two single beds. I would recommend this room for a single traveler, or a couple and friends.

Suite Cabin (Senior Cabin, Superior Cabin, Premium Cabin)

Price: starting from $185 up to $260.

The price of a suite room is a little higher than a deluxe room. The reason you have to pay more is that a suite room is located on the second deck level, so of course it will bring you a stunning view of Halong Bay – better than rooms on the first deck. The second reason is that the suite room features a minibar, and on some cruises a suite room has a private balcony- trust me when I say there’s nothing better than sharing a couple of cocktails with someone special in a setting like that.

Royal Suite Cabin

Price: starting from $275 up to $400.

A royal suite room is the luxury update of a suite room. It has more area, usually 1.5 times, or even 2 times as much. It is located on the second deck level with a balcony and minibar. A royal suite room is facilitated by a king bed. Moreover, it contains a bathtub with free flowers, and free local fresh fruits are always ready to be served. The royal suite room is a great choice for a couple on honeymoon.

Among the top cruises, Signature Royal Halong Cruise even has a jacuzzi in their royal suite room.

Family Deluxe Cabin

Price: starting from $400 up to $650.

Several cruises offer a maximum of 3 adults plus 1 child under 12 years old for a family deluxe room, but usually 4 adults plus 1 child. Therefore, the amount of money for each person is reasonable in a group of 4; interconnecting rooms with 2 double beds or 1 double bed plus a single bed.

Located on the first deck level, a Family Deluxe Room has its own balcony as well. Fit for 3 or 4 person families and groups of friends.

Family Suite/Family Elite/Connecting Suite Cabin

Price: starting from $500 up to $850.

This is better than a family deluxe room for two reasons: first, it’s on the second deck level so you can better experience the view of Halong Bay; secondly, it’s more spacious, giving you and your guests extra room and privacy- some cruises offer 98m2 area for this type of room.

Like a Family Deluxe Room, it also has a minibar, free wine and fruit, a private balcony and additional extras. If your room is at the back of the cruise, luckily you’ll get an “exclusive” terrace!

In conclusion, all services on board are the same. When you book a cruise ticket, you have the right to avail of all services like free meals, welcome drinks, taichi, kayaking, etc. Only the facilities in the rooms are different.
